Quaker Wedding Certificates by Melissa Dinwiddie

I love Quaker wedding customs. As with a traditional Jewish wedding, no officiant is technically required at a Quaker ceremony; the couple simply declares their intentions before God and those gathered. In a traditional Jewish wedding, a ketubah is signed by two witnesses (and most traditionally, only the witnesses); at a Quaker wedding ceremony the couple signs a Quaker wedding certificate stating their declarations, and all those present are also asked to sign the wedding certificate as witnesses.

A Quaker wedding certificate is usually a brief statement of commitment, frequently lettered by hand in beautiful calligraphy. It may be very plain, or have a simple or elaborately illuminated border.

Some of my ketubah prints work beautifully as traditional Quaker wedding certificates, and most designs can be adapted into combination ketubah/Quaker documents, combining ketubah wording with space and signature lines for everyone at the wedding to sign.
